This error appears when you create an original and new QuickBooks company file. The same error also occurs when you open an already available file:

Why this error occurs?

There are many reasons that may create this problem:

  • If Antivirus is running on your system when you create a new file
  • If there are corrupted network data files
  • If you update your company files from the old QuickBooks version without using Administrator login details for the Windows login.
  • When the domain of client machines and Server does not match.

How to resolve the problem?

You can resolve this issue by performing many solutions recommended by Intuit. Your problem may be resolved with the solution 1, or it may be necessary to practice all available solutions to fix the problem. You must perform these solutions orderly so that you may get excellent results.

Solution 1: If you get this error while trying to update the company file.

At first, open a new file to check if this error appears on your company file or it is with all other company files. You will use your Administrator login details to login to the Windows and update the file. If you cannot log in using your own Administrator login details, you can get technical help for the Windows.

Solution 2: You can perform this solution when you experience Easy-Step Interview

  • Click Leave when you are In Easy-Step Interview.
  • If you see the message of “Save the file?” click Yes.
  • Enter a unique name for the file and then click Save option.

Solution 3: If you use Safe Mode on Windows, Disable antivirus

  • Restart your system without changing the Safe mode.
  • Disable the running antivirus software

Note: Never use Internet connection when you disable the running antivirus software. You must disconnect your system from Internet connection before you disable running antivirus software. As soon as you complete this process performing the following steps, you can re-enable antivirus software without re-connecting your system to Internet.

  • Create another company file.
  • Keep your system in the normal mode and restart it.
  • Open the QuickBooks software and then open your company files

Solution 4: Rename the QuickBooks Network Descriptor files

  • Find out .nd. files from the hard drive on your system that hosts the shared folder of QuickBooks company file
  • Right-click Network Descriptor file with the name of your QuickBooks company file and choose the option Rename.
  • Type .OLD when you have entered file name, press Enter and you will see the file name as: company file name.qbw.nd.OLD)
  • If you find one file on many systems, you must practice next steps. When you are using QuickBooks software on one system, you have an option to open company file promptly.
  • Click the Start button of Windows and select Programs > QuickBooks > QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
  • Click Scan Folders.
  • If there is no folder that contains the company file, click Add Folder and add it.
  • Click the Scan.
  • Click Close when scan is finished.
  • Open QuickBooks company file.

Solution 5: Create another folder and navigate the QuickBooks company files

  • Create another file folder.
  • Navigate the QuickBooks company files to the new folder.
  • If you have been using QuickBooks on one system, it is easy to open QuickBooks company file using new folder. But, If you use the same file on many computers, you should perform step 4.
  • Click the Start button of Windows and select Programs > QuickBooks > QuickBooks Database Server Manager.
  • Click on Scan Folders.
  • If there is no folder that contains the company file, click Add Folder and add it..
  • Click the Scan.
  • Click Close when scan is finished.
  • Open QuickBooks company file

Solution 6: Be sure that all computer system are working on one domain

You should contact a Network Administrator or an IT expert to add your computer systems to the domain.
